ETGAMA – Ethiopia The Ethiopian Textile and Garment Manufacturers’ Association, ETGAMA, represents Ethiopian garment and textile manufacturers. Re-established in 2003, it currently has 56 member factories throughout the country. Its current seven-member board of directors was elected in September 2007. ETGAMA's main objective is to represent the interests of its members, among them factories owners, with a special focus on technical issues, marketing and policy work.
Technical Interests This covers production processes, firm management and leadership.ETGAMA facilitates training, consultancies and technical capacity building to member companies in order to increase productivity, quality, personnel management, factory leadership and related technical issues. The Association provides such assistance in collaboration with development partners as well as by identifying and informing members of new technical and financial support tools. Marketing Although it touches upon technical interests, ETGAMA attaches a great importance to marketing. Since Ethiopia's textiles and garment industries are still in their infancy, the sector as a whole requires a boost in order to turn products into profits. The product market, the input market and the labor market are the three market areas where ETGAMA member factories have a critical interest.Under the product market, member factories need to sell their products at home and abroad. To do that, they have to reach buyers in a more organized manner and present themselves as bold and cost-effective. Trade fairs, exhibitions, bazaars and related events are the most useful tools ETGAMA uses to contact buyers. Trade visits are also used by the Association to bring buyers and companies together and give practical input on products and factories’ development. Marketing-related technical support is a key interest of ETGAMA members. Preparing marketing plans, developing communication skills, producing brochures and websites, as well as product samples and displays are key functions of ETGAMA and contribute towards increased sales of members. Policy work On the policy level ETGAMA works to create a conducive business environment for member factories. ETGAMA strongly believes that without this individual factories cannot succeed.ETGAMA represents the needs and interests of it members to government so that the sector has the support it needs from the highest level. In this task, policy related issues and big sectoral problems that require attention should be communicated to the appropriate Government body.
